Semi-automatic shotgun

A semi-automatic shotgun is a weapon capable of firing a cartridge each time the trigger is pulled, without the need to manually reload. These weapons use the gas from the shot or the energy of recoil to activate their mechanism, eject the empty cartridge and introduce a new cartridge into the chamber.

Many semi-automatic shotguns also offer an optional manual mode of operation, such as pump action or bolt handle.
